Bloomsbury Visual Arts has just released the newest addition to their series, “Contextualizing Art Markets.” Pioneers of the Global Art Market: Paris-Based Dealer Networks, 1850-1950 is now available for purchase. My essay, “Valentine Dudensing and the Valentine Gallery: Selling the US on the School of Paris” is one of fourteen that investigate the trans-Atlantic partnerships that fueled the art market of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Here are two reviews:
“This wide-ranging collection of essays makes an original and significant contribution to our knowledge of the processes through which art from France came to dominate the international canon of modern art.” —Malcolm Gee, Visiting Fellow, Department of Arts, Northumbria University, UK
“For anyone interested in the fate of modernist art or strategies that have powered the global art market, this book is a must read.” —Anne Helmreich, Associate Director, Getty Foundation, USA

I’m pleased to announce that my article, “Picasso’s American Valentine,” is featured in the May 2020 issue of OJO: le journal, the Picasso Administration’s online journal. In it I explore Valentine Dudensing’s important role in promoting the artist’s work in the U.S. during the 1930s.
